All of my original paintings and illustrations are not available as prints or cards, and all sizes of prints are not available, but if you make a request, I will do my best to help you give my paintings a new home. If the original is not available in the store, it is either not for sale or has already been sold.
ORIGINALS Most of my original paintings are made using a combination of traditional Japanese sumi-e brush techniques and my own contemporary painting style. I mix dry pigments in gelatin or grind sumi ink by hand, brushing them, along with gansai watercolors, on hand-made washi paper. After finishing the original painting, I mount it to a wooden-framed canvas with museum-grade rice starch. I often combine other mediums in my work as well, including collage, washi sculpture, acrylic gouache, kakishibu, pencil, encaustic, and even LEDs; each media reacts in a different way with the washi and ink.
PRINTS Each print is individually printed in a numbered, limited edition using archival ink (sometimes called giclée), then hand-signed and sealed with my stamp. If a print is no longer available, you will only be able to order a card. You can choose to have your print in one of two styles:
- The watercolor print is slightly more vivid than the mulberry print due to the reflective nature of the paper, and it gives you extra space around the image for matting.
OR
- You do not need a frame for the mulberry print (though you can frame it if you want), but it should be protected from moisture. The texture of the mulberry paper is more similar to that of the originals' handmade washi paper, absorbing more ink into the fiber.
The image is usually the same size for either print. Both prints are protected by an acrylic bag and a foam backboard is placed with the watercolor prints for added protection when shipped.
Print prices are based on size (shipping and handling is calculated at checkout) and are usually smaller than the original (but in the same ratio--1:1, 1:3, etc.). When I recieve an order, I will try to send it as soon as possible, but it can take up to two weeks or more, especially if I am in the middle of doing back-to-back festivals.
CARDS All available cards are individually printed on watercolor paper and hand-signed by me in my studio with matching envelope and protected by an acrylic bag. Cards are $5 each, plus shipping and handling.
